Humour Me is about…

Evalyn has lost her sense of humour and volunteers for a scientific study in to humour and the brain. Leo is the doctor of neuropsychology conducting the study as part of his PhD dissertation. Evalyn and Leo’s journey, examining humour, learning about each other, causes them both to re-examine their own lives and their place in the world. In the end they discover… we must keep laughing, keep our sense of humour, in order to survive in these difficult times. 1M/1F. 70 minutes.

Beverley Cooper is no stranger to the serious and funny stories of life. She has written plays dealing with both with a smart, keen command. Humour Me involves the various areas of the brain and what they control. The implications of the story are both serious and whimsical—seeing how the brain deals with humour; and witnessing the distress of a woman who thinks she’s lost her sense of humour. But of course, at the heart of the play is how the human heart deals with humour, sadness, solving an emotional problem, and feeling the heart swell when one is being held while dancing. Humour Me is a pun of a title and it goes with a joy of a play.
